DAY 174

10/31/2016

Today we are practicing pit on the track. We have to be mindful of the kids on the track so we don’t run into them. We got new battery terminals and we had a difficult time trying to connect them. We set them up on Saturday, and we have forgotten how to put them on. Trial and error was key and we eventually. We had an issue with our car and had to stop halfway through the first lap. We need to determine the problem area so we can fix it before the race day which is just only eleven days away.

Joke of the Day: What's a monster's favorite bean?

Today we are installing the motor controller and the electrical harness. Christina's father was so kind to come and help install the motor controller and electrical harness. We got our new jumpsuits and are making adjustments so that they fit properly. Josh is working on finding new inspirations, riddles, and jokes for the blog.  Corbin and Pete  are reinflating the tire to 80 PSI.   Christina and Sadie were checking the battery turminals to replace them with new bolts.

Riddle of the Day:  What occurs once in every minute, twice in every moment, but never in a thousand years?

Today we are going to work on the wiring of our car so we can completely attach our new motor controller.  We need to understand what we are doing, so we do not cut our wires too short. Will A. and Sean are working on their slide of the presentation. Sadie and Corbin are also working on their slide of the presentation.

Inspiration of the day: “The only source of knowledge is experience.” -Albert Einstein
Explanation: In Greenpower we have to learn from our mistakes and failures. We, as a team, can grow and achieve more every day. We experience so much, whether it be from races or in the classroom. Our team has become closer together, in a sense, since the beginning of the year.

Today Thomas, Sadie, and Will V. are continuing to work on making booklets for race day times and what we are doing before the race for preparations such as: scrutineering, practice times, etc... Thomas Aiden, Sean, Will A., Christina, and Corbin are all working on presentation practice. We need to score high on this part of the race so we can get points and if we do the best out of everyone we get an award. Hopefully, we will be able to stay after school tomorrow and finish installing our new motor controller and electrical harness so we will be able to have that by the race. We fixed our brakes so they are now more efficient in braking earlier and quicker.

Today we are working on our RaceDay preparations. Thomas and Sadie are working on creating the booklets. Christina and Corbin are working on the presentation and adding a new slide for sponsors.  Will and Pete are working on driving times which will show who is driving for how long. Ella is making an outline for tomorrow’s blog. Will A. and Aiden are practicing their scripts while Pete listens and corrects and helps them.  Ian and Sean are correcting their scripts so it is easier to remember for them. Will is showing Corbin and Josh where to stand as spotters during the race. They have a very important job and need to be able to communicate with pit and each other so they can instruct the driver on what to do.  Also over the weekend we worked on our putting the electrical harness into the car and on getting the motor controller hooked up. We adjusted the brake pads so that we can stop better and make sure that our drivers are safe.

Riddle of the Day: What type of house weighs the least?

DAY 169

Today we are practicing and perfecting our scripts for the presentation. Everyone is working hard on memorizing their scripts and are working with others to help better themselves and their presenting skills. It is a fun way for us to learn how to present to others and work on projecting our voices. Christina and Pete are changing one of the slides to make our scripts make more sense. It is very important that we score well in the presentation, so we get a better overall score during the race.

Inspiration of the Day: "Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible." -Francis of Assisi
Explanation: We work hard every day in the classroom and in the shop. Us, the team, have made great strides in our work and have impoved vastly. Even though some days we have our struggles and strifes, we still are able to learn and improve on what we do. We have accomplished much over the course of a few months.

Today we presented our presentation. We did our first run through. We have to make adjustments to the presentation and our scripts. Some of the other parts did not have scripts or an outline of what they were talking about. In the presentation there were some slides that did not make sense or were accurate. Christina and Pete are fixing all the mistakes and remaking the gallery slides. We have to decide how we want to line up to make a smooth transition between slides. There were some difficulties in not stuttering or saying ‘filler’ words. Our overall presentation was okay, but it could have been stronger. We will continue to practice and make sure we know what we have to say.

DAY 167

Today we are working on our raceday presentation. We are working on transitions and getting our parts down. Repetition is key in presenting. We have to know our parts before we present to an audience. Pete is changing anything in the PowerPoint that doesn’t seem right. Each group is working diligently in making sure everything is perfect in their slide topic.  We are presenting to each other and working on transitioning with the next and last slides. We need a smooth transition so it doesn’t seem choppy and uncoordinated.

Today we are practicing the presentation. We are working with our other partners on our designated slides. Each person has to decide what they want to cover on their slide. Some have multiple partners on a slide while others are working alone. Each slide group is working on their presentations Sadie and Pete are cutting the foot box so they do have a stopper for their feet. Pete is using a saw while Sadie assists him and helps hold the box. They keep adjusting it so they have the perfect fit.

Day 165

Today we are continuing to work on pit and timing to see how fast we can do it; yesterday our fastest time was 8.64 seconds so we are trying to beat that because we get more points the faster we leave pit. We are working on getting more jumpsuits for raceday. Christina and Corbin are still working on our presentation. We will be working on the script of the presentation tomorrow. Since our new motor controller and electrical harness came in we will be setting them on the car as soon as we can. We are quite excited for them because they will help us in races. Pete is working on cutting with a saw so he has to very careful as to not harm himself or others.

Answer to yesterday’s joke: he had no guts

Inspiration of the Day:  "Don’t ruin a good today by thinking about a ruined yesterday" -Unknown
Explanation:  Some days are hard on the team because we were not able to do all we wanted or something went wrong. We have to overcome our obstacles like the weather, losing tools, and parts breaking. Our past cannot ruin our future.
