Driving/ Shop!Good Morning, Grizzlies! Today is Monday, February 29, 2016. We are in the shop! Happy Leap Year Day! We are driving today! We have 4 stations. Station 1: In this station, we have the drivers, pushers, timer, and blogger. It’s important that we are practicing driving because we need to see if our speed has increased and if we have improved or not. Our pushers are practicing because in the last race, we were supposed to have a staggered start and it didn’t go out that way. Our pusher is Connor. Our drivers that are driving today are JD, Pete, Nathan, JB, John, and Manigan. Our timer is Lindsey. The blogger is Carlee. We are doing the qualifying drivers today. When we qualify drivers, we are deciding who the best to drive at the race is. I think this is very important and that we must choose carefully, so that we have a better chance this race! Today, Station 1 will be located by the walkway on our track. Station 2, 3, and 4: These stations consists of members of our team mainly watching the car just in case we have an accident. Hopefully, we will not have an accident. I really hope that we do great. Hopefully, our improvements will work. I think that we will do a lot better due to the improvements. I can’t wait to see the outcome. It hopefully will be splendid. Let’s hope for the best! Station 2: (Tyler, Kehinde, and Julien), Station 3: (Jake and Will), and Station 4: Thomas and Marsden. SPIRIT NIGHT We have a Spirit Night coming up! The date is on Tuesday, March 1st, 2016. The time is from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We cannot wait to see some familiar faces and hopefully intrigue some people about our program. Maybe, some will want to join! That includes the younger kids too! There is a team for 5th graders for our school! They are doing so great! It’s so great seeing them get involved at such a young age. It will help them so much for their future. It is helping us so much for our future! Please try to come to the Spirit Night. We guaranteed you, it will be worth your time! Today is the last day for Black History Month, so we might as well go out with a bang. Black History Month: Barack Obama is an American politician serving as the 44th president. He was born August 1st, 1961. He attended Harvard Law School. He is the first African- American to hold a spot as president of the United States. He won the election in 2008 and won his second term in 2012. Although people have their opinions about if he was a good president or not, he has done his job and what is done is done. He made history and attempted at doing his best. We are thankful for at least his attempts of trying to make this a better place. With more to come, Carlee from Green Grizzlies. "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

Shop!Good Morning, Grizzlies! Today is Friday, February 26, 2016. What are we doing? Today, we are working on the tail cone, presentation, running the motor, and working on website. Running the motor: We are running the motor because we installed a new one, I believe. We improved it in some way. We have to make sure it runs fine and that is good to go. We really want to make sure that everything runs fine because like I said we want to do better this year. We just want another chance at doing better and if we try, then we may get it. I cannot wait unit the race because I think we can and will do better this race. We can’t wait to start racing! We can’t wait to see some familiar faces from last race. We hope you are looking forward to it too! Tail cone: Mr. Timlin is here helping us with our tail cone. We are hoping to get a plan settled for how we are attaching our tail cone and where. I think his help will help us a lot. Hopefully, we get it all figured out. They already glued the Styrofoam together and they are ready to cut it with a hand saw. Hopefully, they glued it enough and made sure it is tightly on there. Presentation: We are working on the presentation because we need to be prepared and have enough practice down for when we present for the race. I think it is great that we are practicing and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. I think we are doing very great on our power point so far and I think that we will get better the more we practice. I cannot wait for the presentation before the race. It is going to go great, I believe. Let’s hope it does! Website: I think the only thing we are doing on the website is blog. I am writing the blog at the moment and I hope you enjoy today’s update. I apologize for repeating Tuesday’s Black History Month figure. It is hard to keep track of who I have already written about. Hopefully today, I will get it right. I have no updates for the blog for today. As I mentioned on Tuesday, there will probably be no updates until March 1st. The reason of it is that I will be able to add jokes for St. Patrick’s Day. When I say updates, I mean adding new stuff. I do not mean that I am not posting a blog update. I am sorry if that is confusing for you. Look forward to updates on Tuesday! Take off decals: Kehinde and Marsden are taking off the decals because we are making changes to our car and it would be hard making those changes with the decals still on. Also, I think we are getting new decals. I think it’s great that we are being careful and removing the decals so we do not damage them. Battery Tester: Mr. Cruise recently tested are two of our batteries to see which kind would be more efficient to use during our race. We want to improve, so he is helping us improve by helping us. We are grateful to have him help us! I hope we figure out which batteries to use and we get everything figured out. We want to have a better chance this year at the race! We are going work harder towards our goal and hopefully achieve it! We have a Spirit Night coming up! The date is on Tuesday, March 1st, 2016. The time is from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We cannot wait to see some familiar faces and hopefully intrigue some people about our program. Maybe, some will want to join! That includes the younger kids too! Black History Month: Ray Charles was a pianist, singer, songwriter, and composer. He was born on September 23rd, 1930. He died on June 10th, 2004. He was nicknamed the “Father of soul.” He was an inspiration to many people with his skills. You may think, so what he was a singer and a songwriter? We wasn’t just that! He was a blind genius and he is considered one of the best artist of all time. His most popular songs were “Hit the road Jack” and “Georgia on My Mind”. He will forever hold a spot in being one of the greatest artists of all time! He is gone, but never forgotten. With more to come, Carlee from Green Grizzlies "My music had roots which I'd dug up from my own childhood, musical roots buried in the darkest soil." Good Morning, Grizzlies! Today is Thursday, February 25, 2016. We are in the shop today. What are we doing? Today, we are working on the tail cone, presentation, running the motor, and working on website. He was mostly known for his creation of lubrication of steam engines. He created steam engine lubrication because he wanted train travel to be more efficient. When he was younger, he showed strong interest in mechanics. We are so thankful for this invention! Without it, traveling by train would not be efficient and worthy to do. With more to come, Carlee from Green Grizzlies "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. " Good morning, grizzlies Today we are in the classroom. We are working on the presentation, going through each part to try and master it so we'll be ready for the real Greenpower presentation. We are also editing the powerpoint to make things we say clear and easy to read. Not much else is going on at the moment, but on Friday we plan to take the car outside for driver qualifying, giving people a chance to drive for Mountain Gap. After that pusher qualifying, and then we can start practicing for the race. Until then, we get the repetitive things out of the way, so the fun can begin.
-Joshua Good morning, Grizzlies! Today is Tuesday, February 23, 2016. We are in the shop. We are working on tail cone, presentation, running the motor, and website. Tail cone: We are working on this because we need to have more aerodynamics to our vehicle. We made changes to our nose cone after the Spring Race of 2015. After making those changes, we improved our speed a little bit, but not enough for our standards. We want to have a better chance at winning this year. This is our last year with the rest of our original members. Next year, it will be all new people besides the 7th graders this year. We are going to miss Greenpower! Presentation: We are working on this because we want to have a more efficient grade for when we present to the judges. We want to have a better grade than last year because we always love doing best we can. I think if we practice enough and do the best we can, we will succeed! Let’s hope we practice enough and get a good grade on our presentation. Let’s also hope to wow those judges! Running motor: We are running the motor because we recently got a new motor and we are keeping a close eye on that is still working correctly and that it is running smoothly. I hope that the motor does not choose to mess up because we want to be able to go to the race in April and hopefully practice with other teams in March. Let’s hope! I don’t think it will, but you never know what can happen. Website: On this team, we are working on blog and updating the website. I do not know what they are adding to the website, but I know that we should add the date and time of our Spirit Night. Just in case you don’t read the blog and you want to go, it should be on the website. There are no updates for the blog. I think I will be adding stuff at the beginning of March. So, there’s not much to talk about with website. Look forward to more updates soon! We have a Spirit Night coming up! The date of the event is Tuesday, March 1st, 2016. It would be held from 5:00PM- 8:00PM. We hope everyone makes it to the Spirit Night. We love seeing everyone participate in events that raise money, not for us for local businesses that allow us to hold the event there. We are really lucky to be able to have a great place to hold the event and we are very thankful for that. We are also thankful for everyone that comes to our Spirit Nights. Some nights there are a lot of sport events going on. Not only with our school, but some our peers have a sibling that play for a sports team. We have a bigger chance to make more money for improvements to our car. We are really thankful for the money we have made so far. Black History Month: Garrett Morgan was an African- American inventor. He was mostly known for his inventions! He improved the traffic signal, invented a hair straightening product, created the gas mask, and revamped the sewing machine. His inventions are so important to us, especially to our soldiers in the Army. His gas mask helps soldiers get through toxic gas without dying and it makes them able to breathe in the toxic gas. The traffic signal helps direct our traffic with our vehicles. Without, we would have a ton of car accidents. We are thankful these inventions were made! ( I am not sure if I have already did one about him, but if I did, I apologize!) With more to come, Carlee from Green Grizzlies "If you can be the best, then why not try to be the best." Garrett Morgan Good morning, Grizzlies! Today is Monday, February 22, 2016. We are in the classroom. We discussed many things today as a group. We talked about going to a race in Madison City called the “Mad City” race. We decided as a group that we were not going to do the race. We said that it was too much of a risk and if we did mess our car up in the race that we would only have 12 days to fix it and that would not be enough time. We want to be able to go to the race on April 23rd. That being said, we are not going. However, we came up with an idea of hosting our own race at Whitesburg sometime in March. I think that it’s a great idea and that we should do it instead of risking our car’s life. I think that it would be great because it would give us practice with people that want to try to drive. Another reason we don’t want to do “Mad City” is that the track is a running track and there would be a lot of cars and not a lot of space. We really do not want to wreck or hurt our car because we have worked so hard on it. If we had more time to fix the injuries to our car, then maybe that would increase our chances of going, but not giving it an exact yes. I think it’s a hard decision to make because we want so much practice and we don’t want to hurt our car. We hope we can host our own race and get in some practice. I also think that we are going to the shop tomorrow. I think that we are driving tomorrow. I do not know if it is this Tuesday or next, but Mr. Cruise is coming to get two other batteries. He did tests on two of our batteries and we found out which one if more efficient for our car. It showed significant difference in the voltage and the improvements. I think it’s great that we are getting help from someone. We cannot wait to see how the outcome looks and we hope to get helpful data on our batteries. We have a bigger chance to make more money for improvements to our car. We are really thankful for the money we have made so far. Black History Month: Lewis Howard Latimer was an African-American inventor who was a member of Thomas Edison’s research team called “Edison’s Pioneers.” He was born in 1848 and died in 1928. He is mostly known for improving the incandescent lightbulb by inventing carbon filament. We are very thankful he improved this invention because we use lightbulbs today! We will always remember him for his great work and we will never forget him. He is gone, but never forgotten! With more to come , Carlee from Green Grizzlies "Habit is a powerful means of advancement, and the habit of eternal vigilance and diligence, rarely fails to bring a substantial reward. " Lewis Howard Latimer Good morning, Grizzlies! Today is Friday, February 19th, 2016! We are in the shop today! What are we doing today? Today, we are in the shop! We are running the motor, testing the batteries, working on tail-cone, blog, and photography. Running the motor: We are running the motor because we need to always be update and make sure it is working properly. I think it is great that we are divided into teams and working on certain things to help get all of our tasks done. We have so much cooperation and problem-solving skills. From as far as I know, our motor is running fine and sounds good. Thank you to the people who are running it and holding down the button. You are helping out a lot! Testing batteries: We are testing batteries because we always need to make sure they are working properly as well. The batteries and the motor basically run our car, so its highly important that we keep an eye on how they are doing and if we need to do anything to improve them. The batteries and aerodynamics aspects are what make our car go fast and that is our goal. We need to go fast to be able to reach our overall goal, which is to do better than the last race. Mr. Cruise is helping us on testing the batteries. Thank you to him for his help and him help with guiding us on to a better path with the batteries. I think we also ordered a voltmeter! It's good that we ordered the voltmeter because we need it to check the voltage of our batteries. Tailcone: This aerodynamic aspect will help improve our speed as we form it to cut vertically through the air. Along with our batteries, this will improve are speed. We need to reach our goal! I think making changes will help us reach our goal. I am really glad that we are making these changes and ecstatic to see the outcome. Hopefully, everything comes out great and we are able to reach our goal. Blog: Of course, I am writing the blog for you guys to read. There is no updates occurring today, but their will be soon. Look out for upcoming changes to the blog! Although, I will be adding a picture to the blog. It will be going along with the Black History Month figure. I love writing the Black History Month section and I am really glad I added it. It gives you insight to why this month is great, while you are being updated about our team and car. We have a bigger chance to make more money for improvements to our car. We are really thankful for the money we have made so far. Black History Month: Ronald McNair was known for being one of the people that were in the launch of the space shuttle Challenger. He was born on October 21st, 1950 and died on January 28th, 1986. He was a NASA astronaut and a physicist. He will always be known for risking his life for a mission. He will certainly not be forgotten to anyone a part of the Rocket CIty. He is idolized for his bravery and courage of what he did on that very day. We are thankful of what he did. He is gone, but never forgotten. With more to come, Carlee from Green Grizzlies "Whether or not you reach your goals in life depends entirely on how well you prepare for them and how badly you want them. You're eagles! Stretch your wings and fly to the sky." Good morning, Grizzlies! Today is Thursday, February 18th, 2016. I am posting the same blog from because there is really nothing to add or change but the black history month figure, and date. I am terribly sorry. I am back and will post a NEW post tomorrow. I accidently clicked out and didn’t save the blog I had written on the site. I do not like writing on the site and that is exactly why I do not write on there. I usually type it in a word document. We are in the classroom today. I apologize for the blogs looking similar, we have been doing the same thing, so there is not much to add. I think it’s great that we are having another Spirit Night. I can’t wait to see you guys! We are also doing a sketch for Mr. Cruise. I don’t know much about that yet, but whenever I gather enough information, I will notify you guys. Also, we are making a new design for our car because we have to move it. It has been said by people in charge of the Greenpower that we have to have numbers on both side and our school name on there. That being said, we have to make more adjustments to our car. I hope that it goes smoothly and we take our time. We are working on practicing the presentation. We have been in the classroom practicing our presentation. It is so important that we practice and I know I explain this in every blog, but it really is important that we practice. I think it’s really important because it allows us to be prepared and ready other than being scrambled and unprepared. The judges will see us as responsible and that’s what we really need. We have to remember that our team and our actions reflect upon our car and school. We do not want to make our school and car look bad. I think us practicing is great and it is great that we are discussing the questions as well. It would be bad for us and we would get nowhere. Therefore, let us be prepared for the presentation and be able to professionally answer questions that may or may not be asked. I think confidence is one thing that judges love to see other than preparedness. They like seeing the groups believe in themselves and work hard to produce a great outcome. I see a lot of confidence in Greenpower. Not only our team, but a lot of other teams have a lot of confidence and that’s really important. Many of the teams are very proud of the car and their process of making the car. I think that is really amazing how people build a strong confidence and present it to others around them. They create a reflection off of themselves towards their team, car, and school. We always want to be confident because we want to represent our school. We are not just here for the money and I don’t want to get any misconception from anyone, but the important part is what we are making the money for. We aren’t all about money and winning. I think people over look us sometimes and think that because we are young that that’s all we want and it’s not. We want to succeed and take part in our future right now. We want to be prepared for our lives for the future, instead of getting nowhere in life. Therefore, the Spirit Nights are super important to us and the people that help us make money for improvements and support us. We really appreciate it! Keeping in mind, the race is coming up in April. We all know that dates come faster than they should and you should always be prepared for it. We aren’t procrastinating on any task that we need done. We are getting done what we need to get done and I think that is important. Like I have said before, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose. It matters about how much effort you put into the work and what you did to TRY to win. If you at least attempt to reach your goals, you might make it. If you sit around, you aren’t going to make it anywhere. We have to make sure our car is 100 percent safe. By doing that, we have to take our time on improving things. If we don’t, we could end up hurt. We do not want to end up hurt. Another thing is that people are all worked up about winning. Although victory is a great feeling to feel, how is it beneficial to us? How does it make us better people? I think if you can be a good person when you “lose”, it shouldn’t matter if you win or lose the next time. If you’re a sore loser about something, you need to try harder the next time and be a better person about it. Winning and losing is not the important thing. Titles are important at all. I think that is where people get carried away with it. If you try your best, you will succeed. I guaranteed you that! Black History Month: Henrietta Lacks was known for being the unwitting source of cells of her cancerous tumor which was used to create the first human immortal cell line called HeLa. We actually still used this today! I try to find people for the Black History Month section that are involved in STEM and are important idols for people in STEM. She has improved our ways of developing scientific studies and has gave us a great insight for science. The person that cultured her for her cells in her cancerous tumor was George Otto Gey. She will continue being an important person of Black History Month. She has made us have the ability to improve studies by letting someone use the cells from her tumor. She is gone, but never forgotten. With more to come, Carlee from Green Grizzlies '"Just don’t give up what you’re trying to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong." Good morning, Grizzlies Today we're working on the same things from yesterday. The motor, presentation, tail cone, and side panels. Progress is being made, which is a good thing. Not much more is going on other than that, but once everything is ready to go, we can start practicing on the track, logging our times, tweaking our car, and become ready to race in April. Other than that, everyone has worked hard and we will continue to do so.
Fun fact: Ronald Reagan, our 40th president, was a movie actor before he ran for president. -Joshua Good Morning, grizzlies Today we're still working on the motor, as well as the side panels and tail cone. Our build team is working on the tail cone and side panels, and the outreach team is tweaking the presentation. Time is winding down and the race is coming up soon, so we are attempting to be as efficient and hardworking as possible. We as a team are eager to race and prove that our team is competition for everyone against us, and checking to make sure we don't have anything going on that would hinder us during the race is vital towards us competing. Our previous races were determined by faults that we had in our car, so preparing should give us a better outcome, and more confidence in our abilities. Every day is closer to race day, and we hope you are ready to see us compete.
